“Many years ago, I have resolved to never bother with New Year’s resolutions, and I have stuck with it ever since!”

Have you been asked if you have a New Year’s Resolution this year?  If so, have you stuck to it or did you laugh nervously and quickly change the subject?  If you’re like most people, you’ve already given up on your resolution (and 80% of us do), or perhaps you never even started it!  It’s no surprise then, that New Year’s resolutions can actually make some people depressed.  Studies have shown that those who fail at keeping their commitments to themselves experience lowered self-esteem, sadness, and depression.  As we enter a new year, with new goals in mind, we should feel optimistic, not depressed.  Seriously, why do we even put that kind of stress on ourselves?  Why don’t we just at any time make the change you want.  Put a game plan together and have a buddy to do it with you, if that’s what you want.

The top New Year’s Resolutions for 2020 are:

  1. 51%- Eat healthier
  2. 51%- Manage finances better
  3. 50%- Be more active
  4. 42%- Lose weight
  5. 38%- Improve mental well-being and practice mindfulness
  6. 30%- Improve social connections
  7. 22%- Learn new skills
  8. 22%- Be more eco-friendly

So, did you think of any of the above?  I know I did.  But, did I do anything about it?  Nope.  Not yet anyway.  I’ve learned in the past that New Year’s resolutions don’t work for me.  Why do I think I will be more successful at something I’ve been wanting just because it’s a new year?  I think that’s just silly.  I think if you really want to change something, change it today and don’t wait until the new year.

Here are some New Year’s resolution quotes that you can ponder ANY day of the year to better yourself:

“Life is too short to start your day with broken pieces of yesterday, it will definitely destroy your wonderful today and your great tomorrow”—I love this one!

“What can you do today that you could not do yesterday?”

“A goal is a dream with a deadline”

Cheers!
